Since the winners of the EFL Cup and the FA Cup, Manchester City, qualified for the Champions League, the spot given to the FA Cup winners was passed to the sixth-placed team and the spot given to the League Cup winners was passed to the seventh-placed team. On 9 July, both Fernandes and Greenwood scored again, with Paul Pogba adding his first goal of the season in a 3–0 win at Aston Villa.
